Thing 23

I'm Done!!!!!!
Yeah!!! I did it (with a little help from a co-worker) I finished my 23 things, each and every one of them. Library 2.0 and my thoughts..... I have learned many new things and I had no idea there was so much going on out there. I have mentioned to some of our patron's about using LibraryThing in their search for a good read. Some of my favorite things and discoveries in 23 things were of course LibraryThing, Sharing you creations, Flickr, Facebook and Tagging. I was able to connect with other staff in the library through Facebook and Survey Monkey. While participating in the 23 things there were many take-a-ways that will be used at home, travel and here at work. I don't know what could be done differently to improve the 23 things learning experience, except that time is always an issue for most staff. I would absolutely be interest in "23 more things" in the future. I would never pass up free learning. My one word for the 23 things program would be: superb!!!!!

Thing 22

keep on keepin' on!!
I am planning on keeping up with web and library 2.0 tools when I have extra free time. I hope to be able to go back and look at all of the past 21 things. I will probably make myself look at something related to my blog at least everyday. I will also play around with all of these tools from home when I am not interrupted as much. You want to know if I have discovered any web 2.0 tools not mentioned. Are you kidding? I am just not that 2.0 advanced quite yet, but thanks for asking!

Thing 21

Aggregators!
So many choices and so little time. I really liked the look of PageFlakes (more of a start page lo0k) but it was a little more complicated so I chose Friendfeed. It seemed very user friendly. I do like the idea of using an aggregator to pull together all of my social networks as possible to one page. I think it is all a bit overwhelming. I am not a big enough user in the evenings to reap the benefits. As to how they compare to RSS feeds etc.... I think it is an individual decision. I would love a start page that links to everything for me. I could pull it up each day to check the weather, read the latest news report, check my stock and update my blog. I could then upload some pics and see what all of my family members that live far away are doing. I am still a bit old fashioned so I just pick up the phone and call them or send an email.

Thing 20

Gaming at the Library.
I Think gaming at the library is a great idea! Why are we not doing it already? Table-top or video does not matter to me, what matters to me is pulling in the age group to the library in any way possible. I think as with anything the library offers we will hear from both sides. Let each side make their own decision to allow their teen to participate or not. We have always heard from parents in regards to our open access when their child checks out an "R" movie. It is not our decision to allow or not allow involvement in a gaming program, but we could at least offer it. I have not experienced gaming in a library but I think we should give it a try. I actually agree in some ways that we need to have these extra options for this age group. I feel that we have what the older and younger generation want, but the teen years require something different. I want the "popularity" to be library related. I want more teens in here for something other than "my space" and the basic internet use. I say let's give "gaming at the library" a go!

Thing 19

I will get back to this when the LINT site is working better. Okay so I just visited the new LINT. I really like the look of it. I created a pretend blog for welcoming Ell staff (I hope more make it there soon) to just say hello. I hope every department will have a Blog, pretty cool looking I must say.

Thing 18

Survey away!
I took a quick look at all of the 4 survey options listed. I am not sure which I liked best, but as far as the look and ease the SurveyMonkey wins for me. I thought it was very user friendly, but I did make a mistake on my first survey that I sent to my co-workers and had to edit. I also had to call on Court to assist me right at the end on choosing the best option for posting and responding. I know the Holds Task Force committee members have used the survey monkey in the past for questions about holds from the circulation department. It just seems like a great way to get responses depending of course on how you phrase the questions. You have to be careful not to have to many open-ended questions that require more time to answer or you may not receive many responses.

Thing 17

Other Social Networks
I commented and badged. I guess we did not have to post about this, but I will anyway. Phil, you can rent an apartment and find a single person in Bloomington along with commenting, badging, adding video and photos. I just wanted to make sure you knew all of the options available on the NING offspring! haha

Thing 16

Facebook

I already had a facebook account before arriving here at thingy 16. I think facebook seems to be a better choice for me because all of my friends and family are users. My space makes me think of more teenage users. I really like having a facebook account now, but at first I thought it was not going to be useful. I have kept in touch with my out of town family members with facebook and have viewed many photographs never seen before. There are so many different groups to join which makes it interesting. I can see why facebook and my space are becoming popular, just as texting on the cell phone is. It is the new way of communication. I hope to see a connection with our teens and the library someday.

Podcasts,

Well not my favorite 23 thingy, but here is a link below that I added for your enjoyment! I listened to some news and something else that I didn't know what it was. I spent most of my time at podcast.com because it was the easiest for me to use. At this time podcasts do not really interest me.
